چکیده

Granular materials in a split-bottom ring shear cell geometry show wide shear bands under slow, quasi-static deformation. From discrete element simulations (DEM), several continuum fields like the deformation gradient and stress are computed and evaluated with the goal to formulate objective constitutive relations for the flow behavior. From a single simulation only, by applying timeand (local) space-averaging, yield loci can be obtained: linear for non-cohesive granular materials and non-linear with peculiar pressure dependence for adhesive powders. While the contact model will possibly need additional effects to be included in order to resemble realistic powders, the method how to obtain yield loci from a single numerical test on one material appears very promising and waits for calibration and validation.

The critical-state yield stress (termination locus) of adhesive powders from a single numerical experiment

Dry granular materials in a split-bottom ring shear cell geometry show wide shear bands under slow, quasistatic, large deformation. This system is studied in the presence of contact adhesion, using the discrete element method (DEM). Several continuum fields like the density, the deformation gradient and the stress tensor are computed locally and are analyzed with the goal to formulate objective...

About contacts of adhesive, elasto-plastic, frictional powders

Granular materials can be studied in a split-bottom ring shear cell geometry, where they show wide shear bands under slow, quasi-static, large deformation. The contact models are at the basis of their interesting collective behavior and flow-rheology as well the core ingredient for the discrete element method (DEM). The contact mechanics used involves elasto-plastic, viscous, frictional, and to...

Passed the Age of Puberty: Organizational Networks as a Way to Get Things Done in the Health Field; Comment on “Evaluating Global Health Partnerships: A Case Study of a Gavi HPV Vaccine Application Process in Uganda”

In this commentary I will demonstrate that the case study of Uganda’s Human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine application partnership provides an excellent example of widening our lens by evaluating the successful HP vaccine coverage from a network-centric perspective. That implies that the organizational network is seen as the locus of production and that network theories become indispensable to a...

O-44: Characterisation of Monotreme CaseinsReveals Lineage Specific Expansion of an AncestralCasein Locus in Mammals

Background: One important reproductive characteristic of Mammals is the production of milk to nurse the neonate. In order to better understand the evolution of milk we have investigated gene expression in milk cells from monotremes which are the most ancient representative of the mammalian lineage. Materials and Methods: Using a milk cell cDNA sequencing approach we characterise milk protein se...

Viscoelastic analysis of stress distribution in balanced and unbalanced adhesively bonded single-lap joints with functionally graded adherends under the Reddy model

In this study, shear and peel stress distributions in the viscoelastic adhesive layer of a single-lap joint (SLJ) with functionally graded (FG) adherends are investigated. The study focuses on the effect of different adherend profiles and material composition on the time-dependent stress concentration/distribution in balanced and unbalanced SLJs. For this purpose, the Reddy model is applied to ...
